With the sudden death of his father at 16 followed by the untimely demise of his mother at 18, Melvin was able to overcome through his relationship with God and music and that the trauma was not the end of his story.

Using his dynamic voice to lead others to a closer relationship with God and to carry on his family’s legacy while also creating his own, Melvin went on to win Season 9 of BET’s Sunday Best in 2019. He released his debut album I’ve Got A Testimony in 2020 and declares “there is NO FAILURE in God” in his new 2023 album. Throughout the pandemic, amidst loss, quarantine, social distancing, and shuttered churches and schools, Melvin never gave up on God.
